why do you write the words
stating how you feel
asking me, a simple man
to critique, what’s the deal

I don’t write much poetry
I like to draw on walls
or scribble out a limerick
in the bathroom stalls

how can I critique a poem
and don’t know how to write
do you think it’s fair
tell me, am I right

I read the words of poets
amazed, in every way
seeing how they rhyme
with rhythm, they do play

displaying such prowess
confidence of a King
oh, these mighty poets
the sonnets, we do sing

making poems of triplets
playing with their prose
to them it’s just as easy
as staring down their nose

couplets, with such power
Haiku with a soul
writing words of wisdom
each one with a goal

valid are these poets
educated, say the least
knowing all the shortcuts
taming the inner beast

if I were to try to write
a poem, such as this
certainly I’d goof up
the target, I would miss

anyway, I’m leaving
with my crayon in hand
to try and write a poem
to post in everypoet land
